March: A Month of Trials

Leaving for Kenya this time around, I didn't know what to expect as far as how God would open doors for me to be involved in some ministry work.  I assumed that I would connect with Pastor John and would go with Him and some other individuals from the congregation visiting some hospitals a few times a week, speak to people, get a feel for the needs, etc.

God had another plan.  As far as I can tell, the plan involves making me sit at home and listen to what He has to say.  I'm sure you are wondering how was God able to make me sit at home.  First it started out with a bad case of pink eye.  It was so bad I didn't actually realize it was pink eye because my eye was so swollen.  So I got some eye drops for that and it started to clear up, but just as I was ready to make some moves, I got pink eye in the other eye and a bad cold sore on my lips.  Ugg!  More medicines and time to clear up.  That episode was over and I had decided to visit an infant children's home in the area where I live, to see about volunteering there.  I woke up that morning with another pink eye episode.  I decided that the medicine was not working, so I had to see the doctor for something stronger.  When I was on my way to the doctor I stepped in a funny way and twisted my ankle.  So once again I'm sitting at home not going anywhere but listening to what the Lord has to say about the direction He wants.

  1. Hey Lizzy-

    Praise God that He is the one guiding your steps... or rather, your non-steps! It's good to hear that you are trusting Him even in this (seemingly uncertain) time. We who trust in the Lord can rejoice even in middle of uncertainty because we know, and are known by, Him... It encourages me to hear that you are trusting in His faithfulness :)

    I've been reading Habakkuk and have been awestruck by the almighty power of God. Its been so comforting to remember that the All-Powerful Holy One is not only in control of all things, but that He is working out all things for His glory and for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes...

    Here's a little portion from Habakkuk 3:12,13,17-19, which I hope is an encouragement to you, too :)

    "You marched through the earth in fury;
    you threshed the nations in anger.
    You went out for the salvation of your people,
    for the salvation of your anointed."

    and

    "Though the fig tree should not blossom,
    nor fruit be on the vines,
    the produce of the olive fail
    and the fields yield no food,
    the flock be cut off from the fold
    and there be no herd in the stalls,
    yet I will rejoice in the Lord;
    I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
    God, the Lord, is my strength;
    He makes my feet like the deer's;
    He makes me tread on my high places."

    I'm looking forward to seeing how the plans of the Lord unfold in your life :) Keep us posted!

    Love you!
